About Us
Luxembourg Financial Centre
Sal. Oppenheim is aware of the significance of the international financial centre Luxembourg, and has been actively involved in its formation since the beginning. The bank and the Oppenheim family played an essential role in establishing the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg on the international financial map through the involvement of Abraham Oppenheim in the founding of the country’s first bank, the Banque Internationale à Luxembourg (BIL), in 1856.
In 1973 the connection of the Sal. Oppenheim Bank to the international financial centre Luxembourg was revived: together with Dutch partners Pierson, Heldring and Pierson, Sal. Oppenheim founded Oppenheim Pierson International S.A., Luxembourg. After the termination of the joint venture in 1992, the Sal. Oppenheim Bank founded the independent bank Sal. Oppenheim jr. & Cie. Luxemburg S.A.
On 1 July 2007 Sal. Oppenheim jr. & Cie. Luxembourg S.A., created from the fusion of the holding company Sal. Oppenheim International S.A. and the Bank Sal. Oppenheim jr. & Cie. (Luxembourg) S.A., became the group’s parent company, with its headquarters in Luxembourg.
Since 1 January 2011 Sal. Oppenheim jr. & Cie. Luxembourg S.A. is a fully owned subsidiary of Sal. Oppenheim jr. & Cie. AG & Co. KGaA, Cologne. Its focus of business concentrates on custodial services for Investment Funds.
